PN Personnel records robust recruitment quarter for 2023

Posted On Jul 30, 2023

PN Personnel places people in work! Our statistics show we had an extremely strong second quarter of the year with growth in both permanent and temporary recruitments compared to the first quarter of the year, bucking the national trend recently released by the RCSA (our peak body for the recruitment and staffing industry) in their latest Jobs Report

Permanent placements for PN Personnel were up 53% in Q2 compared to Q1.
Permanent job offerings nationwide are down 7%.

Also in decline, the RCSA reported temporary work nationwide fell a staggering 25%.
PN Personnel temporary work grew 11% in Q2 compared to Q1.

Annual average unemployment in the Manawatu increased by 0.3% to 3.2% in the year to March 2023 compared to the previous 12 months.

Feedback from our Clients is mixed, some progressing well and looking to increase their team, whilst others are pulling back from recruitment as we move into the second half of the year.

Our candidate pool remains steady, we have found when we work exclusively with our Clients’ we attract a wider range of quality candidates and as a result can present a better shortlist.

PN Personnel always strive to find the right person with the right skills and fit for the role. The shortlists we are currently presenting to clients are tight.

For specific skill-sets where talent is short, we have found widening the job description to include transferable skills and offering flexibility has been extremely beneficial in widening the available job pool.

We know our reputation as recruiters attracts candidates back to us, some of our talent are on their second, third or even more placements through us. The history and relationships we build over time brings them back, talent know we have the Client contacts and networks to best support their career journey.

Across the Manawatu, SEEK reported a 17% drop in job postings in the year to May 2023 compared to the year ending May 2022. This is reflective but not as severe as the national trend which has seen job postings 23.7% lower than the previous year (June 23 compared to year end June 22).

We have seen an exponential increase in overseas applications, particularly via SEEK. Most of these applicants have not secured their rights to work in New Zealand therefore as recruiters we are unable to progress their applications.

Managing the volume of these applications can be extremely timely. For Clients finding themselves inundated with applications, we recommend working with a recruiter who can assist to streamline networks to genuine and available candidates.

If you are looking to recruit in the Manawatu, talk to us, we have the local knowledge and expertise to customise a recruitment solution to fit your needs.
