About the role
This Management Accounting position supports Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua, MidCentral. Reporting to the Manager - Business Advisory, you will provide financial leadership, strategic advice, and analytical support to enable the achievement of organisational objectives and improved health outcomes. The role plays a key part in supporting patient safety, service quality, and the delivery of organisational KPIs including health targets, budgets, and service plans. While the position has no direct reports, you will act as a trusted partner to General Managers and operational leaders, offering expertise and guidance that contributes to MidCentral's vision for the health sector

RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Deliver accurate financial reporting, insights, and risk analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Partner with General Managers to provide financial advice, training, and commercial guidance.
- Lead budgeting processes and ensure alignment with strategic and operational priorities.
- Support operational and clinical teams with financial tools, models, and best practice guidance.
- Ensure compliance with policies, audit requirements, and internal controls.
- Drive continuous improvement in reporting, processes, and financial management practices.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in accounting/finance (or similar) plus Chartered Accountant designation (or equivalent desirable but not essential).
- Experience: Minimum two years' relevant post-study work experience (health sector experience desirable).
- Technical Skills: Strong numeracy, literacy, report writing, and advanced Excel skills (pivots, tables, VLOOKUP).
- Business Acumen: Understanding of organisational dynamics and the health sector environment preferred.
- Leadership & Interpersonal: Innovative problem-solving, lateral thinking, relationship building, and collaborative working.
- Cultural Competence: Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application in health.
