The number one reason applications get rejected
Being rejected can be hard to take - especially if it happens a lot!

One of the hardest aspects of being in the market for your next career role is not making the interview list. You take the time to apply, attach your CV a.k.a Resume and then you receive responses like this "Thank you for applying BUT..."
Here is the number one reason that employers, recruiting specialists and HR specialists reject applications.
The answer will surprise you in its simplicity.
The number one reason applications get rejected is "The applicant's CV doesn't provide the information the hiring specialist needs to accept their application!"
It really is that simple!
Here is how to increase the chances your application gets accepted:
- Apply for roles where you have the required skills and demonstrate you have the skills required - include examples of successes and achievements in similar roles on your CV
- Have someone impartial (other than you) read the advert and then read your CV - ask them if your CV communicates the skills, behaviours and successes the advertised role asks for
- Re-Do your CV if it doesn't communicate the right information
- If you can afford it - have a professional CV specialist do your CV for you. This is not essential, but can be very beneficial
- Have your friend (from above) re-read your CV to condsider the formatting - ask them if the layout and information flows well - considering things such as tables, fonts, colours and, if appropriate, graphics
- Re-Do your CV if it doesn't look and flow well
- See the helpful CV tools on this page for CV Templates and Tips other-services-for-job-seekers
- If relevant - include links to work you have online like videos, your LinkedIn profile, publications and presentations
A really common error hiring managers, recruiters and HR specialists see is Cover Letters that are incorrectly addressed to the wrong person or refer to other companies or completely different roles. This says "I don't care enough about the reader or the role to take the time to professionally apply".
Remember there is no one format or CV style that works for everyone - showing your individuality can be your biggest advantage. Don't try to be too technical - try to see your CV and application through the readers eyes. When you do this you'll be on the right track!
Good luck with your future applications.
